I drove down to St. Catharine’s to give a copy of The Drive Across Canada to Nancy Macfarlane, the widow of Jim Macfarlane who lent me his grandfather’s Todd Medal to carry across Canada in both 2012 and 2023. She says she wants to donate the medal to a museum and I hope she’s able to do so. While I was down there, I found and visited the grave of Jack Haney, who drove the car in 1912 that was almost the first car to cross Canada. It just seemed like the right thing to do.
My friend Peter came with me. He’s the guy who travelled with me on the Trans-Canada Highway in 2025 and he’s visiting from the U.K. this week to attend the book launch tomorrow in Oshawa at the Canadian Automotive Museum. I’ve prepared a slideshow presentation that explains how I found myself writing about the highway. Once the party’s over, I’ll post a video of that presentation here on this site.
Oh, and in the meantime, both my novels were published last week on Amazon. I’m looking forward to marketing them and seeing their reviews – this has all been a long time coming.
