The male narrator in Bird on a Wire is a misogynist who has little respect for women. He can be a little hard to take at times. Is this a book for guys?
He’s an anti-hero, that’s for sure. Jonathan is a product of his environment, who sees life in his own male-oriented way. Some who’ve read his story have described him as the epitome of Florida Man. I don’t expect readers to like him at all, but I do hope they sympathize with him and understand his actions. I’m sure male readers will recognize his viewpoints, though I also hope they’ll question his attitude and appreciate his development. The main female narrator, Claire, is a strong character too, who offsets the macho bravado of her one-time partner, but you know the two are going to clash again and that it’s not going to end well. I expect readers to root for one person or the other, and I hope they’ll switch back and forth as they question what’s actually happening.
